It looks like Yvonne Nelson and the #Dumsormuststop team will have to look for a new venue for their planned #Dumsormuststop vigil since Authorities at the University of Ghana have indicated that they have not granted permission to the organizers of the May 16 #dumsormuststop vigil to use its stadium.
The Greater Accra Regional Police command had approved of the requested date and the routes for the vigil which is being led by Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson, with support from other celebrities. Participants were expected to gather at the University of Ghana football field on May 16 and proceed peacefully to the Green Park opposite the Villagio at the Tettey Quashie Interchange to show their frustration over the recent power cuts.
However, According to the authorities of the university, they are “not aware of, neither has it granted nor is in the process of granting permission to any person or group of persons seeking to organize or hold any such procession within any of it’s campuses ” This was contained in a statement released and signed by Mercy Haizel-Ashia, registrar of the institution. The statement which was released yesterday May 7, read.
It has come to the notice of management of the University of Ghana that there are media publications of a vigil and/or a procession, purportedly being organised by a group of persons at the stadium grounds of the university of Ghana on may 16, 2015.
The university categorically and emphatically states in no uncertain terms that it is not aware of, neither has it granted nor is in the process of granting permission to any person or group of persons seeking to organize or hold any such procession or vigil on/or within any of it campuses.
The university hereby demands immediate cessation of all mention of it’s name and/or campuses in relation to or in connection with any such activity
